Perpetual Charter

Those who own lots at Concordia can be assured of a permanent resting place for their bodies til Jesus comes again to call them forth from their graves. A perpetual charter has been granted to Concordia Cemetery by the State of Missouri. The land can never be taken and used for public buildings or highways.

Mausoleum of Reverend C.F.W. Walther

Every visitor of Concordia Cemetery will naturally direct his steps to that grand mausoleum which has caught the eye even from afar. He stands before the resting place of Prof. C.F.W. Walther. Here sleeps the founder of the Missouri Synod, alongside his wife. Luther’s great pupil, and the Luther of America, as he has been justly called, and a fitting and proper response it is indeed, which revering love has prepared for the body of him whose memory is ever blessed by thousands of Lutherans throughout this great land. Behold an impressive mausoleum.

Once seen, it will never again be forgotten. Of original classic design, it is characteristic of its occupant. It was erected by the four Lutheran congregations of Saint Louis formerly under his pastorate forming one great parish. Trinity, Immanuel, Zion and Holy Cross. It is built of Italian marble and granite, and maintained by the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod Incorporated. Memorials for the maintenance of the mausoleum may be sent to the LCMS.

Management

Concordia Cemetery is incorporated under the name of the First Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery Society at Saint Louis. All voting members of Trinity and Holy Cross Lutheran Churches are members of the association. The cemetery is managed and administered by the volunteer Board of Directors. Concordia Cemetery is a 501c13 not-for-profit cemetery.

For almost 150 years Concordia Cemetery has been a quiet resting place for those whose souls have been called home. More than 16,000 people have been buried there. Those who have served on the Board of Directors are grateful to God for the service they have been permitted to render.
